HEAR IT IS: The Unofficial Punk Voicepack v2.3

Postby Juan » Tue Mar 06, 2007 11:02 pm

INTRODUCTION

During testing, some people questioned why the punks, being urban mercenaries associated with underground anarchy, sounded like bombastic army men with heavy rural accents.

Based on a tester's exasperated suggestion to try our own voice recording if we thought it was so easy, I created a new set of voices, using the same dialogue, that matched the visual personality of the light and medium punks more closely in my mind.

This is a new version based on suggestions to make it less whispery and scratchy, though there may still be some lingering complaints. I'm not completely happy with how they all turned out, so maybe the third time will be the charm :)

As a bonus, the corp voices have been made louder, since it was often difficult to hear your teammates' orders with explosions and gunfire going off all around you.

DOWNLOAD (6 mb)

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Just unzip them into this directory

\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\dystopia\Dystopia\sound

If you decide that they still sound terrible and want to go back to the real ones, you can just delete the "vox_new" folder and it'll return to the default punk voices.

Enjoy...?

I clicked back to the forum listing and there was already a reply but this was hardly worth it!

Most of them sound pretty good, and I'm happy to have louder Corp voices too, because usually I just heard noise. Most of the punk voices are good but there's a few (generally the ones where it sounds like he's talking loudly, but should be shouting) that sound a little silly (ie: 'Get to the JIP'). All in all, nice job!

yeah, there's a few where it just sounds flat, so I might do some re-recording tomorrow or later on this week.

Some of them sounded a bit "flat", but otherwise nice job. Definately using the improved corp sounds, and will be trying the new punk sounds ingame anyway.

The "improved corp sounds" are the old RC corp voices, aren't they? I prefer the current ones.

About yours... Yeah, they sound very promising :P I wouldn't use them yet, but if you make them feel a bit more real I might

the corp sounds are just the current ones but louder, which is why there aren't backups for them.

I listened through them, and they definitely sound promising. Though they could do with a livening up.

I see Twin is going for nonverbal communication, very (insert appropriate -ist here) of you. :)

yeah, as a small 2.1 update, I sped them up slightly to make them a bit more urgent, as well as lowering the pitch so it'd sound less like me (since it's too disorienting when I use them)

I'm going to wait to do new recordings from scratch until the next client patch comes out, in case there's any changes to the official voicecomms.

I havn't heard your 2.1 update, but still wanted to ask. Is there anything that can be done for the grunting "hurt" sounds. There a little distracting when I play...

Your 2.0 was excellent and I'm definetly downloading 2.1 tonight. :D

I could try to record a few pain sounds when I get some free time but I need to figure out which files go to punks

I updated the zip slightly and changed the installation instructions to include the new steamworks location, though the sounds are still the same

Can you make seperate heavy, medium and light voices with lights being female? That would be totally awesome IMO.

Medium and Lights sharing same script for voice/pain and any player sound.

btw, Juan, you could light you pack size in half, if you delete corps voices. It should work in steamtopia and would in v1.

listening to punk voice ... Holy Fuck!! is it your voice?

yeah!

I left the corps voices in because I remixed them to be louder two years ago, but I didn't notice them being particularly quiet in the last few versions, so I might as well take them out.

babokitty wrote:light voices with lights being female? That would be totally awesome IMO.

I've been suggesting that for years
